There are a few pivotal times in a women’s life when these shifts happen, and one of them is after women give birth. 🤱🍼

While the evidence isn’t super strong for this phenomenon, it does happen and the risk is there. In this video I walk you though this risk and what you can do to protect yourself after pregnancy.

Behind the scenes, I have 2 kids who I love fiercely. 💙 I don’t show them on social media because that’s just not my MO.

What I also don’t talk about a lot is the fact that both of my pregnancies caused major autoimmune flares for me after they were born.

I was in remission before I gave birth to my first, and it took several years for me to get back into remission after my second kiddo. If you are feeling that way about your autoimmune disease–either a flare or a diagnosis–just know that you are not alone. 💙

It’s quite common for autoimmune diseases to show up during or after pregnancy - and for multiple reasons: stress, nutrient depletion, hormone balance, sleep deprivation - and more.

I think it’s super important to talk about hormo

I think it’s super important to talk about hormones because it is one of the biggest triggers of my joint pain. And as I am entering perimenopause, I’m now super vigilant about my hormone balance and how I feel on a monthly basis.

👉 How did I know that my hormones were affecting my Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)? Every month before my period, one of my fingers would get incredibly sore. Once my period started, the pain went away. It followed this cycle for a long time.

I asked several doctors, and none had an explanation for me. My naturopath finally tested my hormones using standard blood panels and the Dutch test. We found that my estrogen was low, but my progesterone was even lower. It took several months and experimentation with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to find the right balance. 💙

Now I’m pain-free but I still keep an eye on my joints every month. If you are in a similar situation, please find a doctor who will listen. I was terrified to start HRT because of all the negative things I had heard, but it’s been a total game-changer for me and my disease.
